our policy
who we are & what we do
In Brief we are a Leicestershire based charitable organisation, created to help raise money for local charities by organising cultural & musical events.
how it all started
APPLAUSE reunites the team that brought the "Somewhere Over The Ruby Rainbow" concerts to Theatres across Leicestershire. In 2007 we presented "40 singers with 40 songs" to celebrate the 40th Anniversary of BBC Radio Leicester and raise funds for an extension at Rainbows - the East Midlands Children's Hospice at Loughborough.
Those concerts were so successful - raising thousands of pounds for children in the East Midlands - that APPLAUSE was born to recreate them, to support other local charities - and introduce new concepts to showcase the finest local singers, dancers and performers.
APPLAUSE already has the backing of CURVE - Leicester's brand new £61m state-of-the-art theatre which will host the first APPLAUSE event, an all-star evening on Sunday 14th June 2009. In addition, theatres in Melton Mowbray, Loughborough, Hinckley and Leicester are thrilled at the prospect of being involved in a brand new series of concerts which will take theatre-goers on a world tour of musicals - from England to America and beyond!
Once again, local theatres will echo to the sound of songs from the shows - but the APPLAUSE team want to highlight the huge diversity of musical talent to be found in Leicester, Leicestershire and Rutland. So they are teaming up with The Ratby Co-operative Band for a special evening of Championship brass music; and "APPLAUSE Classics" will combine singers and musicians to present popular favourites from opera and orchestra in some of the county's finest Church buildings.
