our charities policy

Applause (Leicestershire) Community Interest Company has been established to carry on activities which benefit the community by:

  • Generating funds for local charities whilst promoting local performers in the arts and also local venues
  • Making charitable donations to charitable organisations in the areas of Leicester, Leicestershire and Rutland.  Benefiting charities will have to meet the Applause criteria, as detailed below. 
  • Organising and staging a series of “popular music” concerts with local performers such as singers, dancers, musicians and actors either as soloists or in groups.  Participants will be a mixture of professional and amateur performers.  The net proceeds from these concerts will be donated to local charities as specified above.
  • Promoting local performers in the performing arts.  Amateur performers tend to work in their own locality.  The Applause series of concerts will enable them to work in other venues and to expand their experiences.
  • Promoting local venues.  The concerts will be staged in obvious venues like the local theatres, but will also utilise other venues such as the cathedral, churches and halls etc.  This will help make content and venue accessible to the public, wherever they live in the city or counties, widening participation and appealing to a more diverse community.
  • Fostering and developing working relationships between performing societies that are often in competition with each other in order to showcase as wide a spectrum of the performing arts as possible.
  • Bringing live performances in “popular music” to a wider audience.

In 2009 –

  • Applause (Leicestershire) Community Interest Company intends to link with the Special Olympics as lead charity, and with the Mayoral charities in the 3 areas of Hinckley, Loughborough and Melton Mowbray.
  • Applause (Leicestershire) Community Interest Company intends to donate 50% of the net proceeds to the lead charity and the remaining 50% to be divided equally between the three Mayoral appeals.

Applause (Leicestershire) Community Interest Company will decide upon the lead charity on an annual basis.

Applause (Leicestershire) Community Interest Company will not offer assistance to:

  • Personal or individual activities
  • Bond placements – activity dependent on raising a certain amount for a particular charity
  • Political organisation – unless the community activity has no political motivation and is managed and governed separately (e.g. has management board; separate bank account etc.)
  • Sports team sponsorship
